yeah mine started feeling weird also the last couple days...kinda felt like the clutch is goin out....

 

sounds like its burnt out but it should have gradually gone but i dunno havnt drivin a standard in over 6 months

forgot to add that the fluid in the resivior is black/ a little sludgy

 

to save y'all the trouble... its the slave cylinder. last year mine started acting up in the cold and i'd have to pump the pedal, then this fall it went completey out, and the slave cyl was leaking.

 

If the fluid is sludgy you need a new master and slave cylinder. I just had mine done because of that a month ago. I had a new clutch put in as well since they had to take it apart and it had 103K miles on it. It's all better now...$1000 later!

me and my dad did the whole clutch, slave cyl, flywheel, and changed all the fluid for 800 bucks.

 

You and your dad did it and it STILL cost you $800? I didn't get a flywheel but they're not THAT much. Parts on mine was about $550 and the rest labor.

 

You do not always have to replace the slave!
Bleed it!
Just keep bleeding it until the brake fluid comes out clear!
If it is still soft after bleeding it THEN replace the slave.
For the write up on bleeding the clutch, search in the transmission section. I know that I have posted it MORE than once!

 

If youre in there replacing the slave might as well do the clutch too. Mine did the same thing kinda and it was the slave, Im wishing I did a clutch on it now too.

550 for every thing, incl. slave cyl, clutch and pressure plate? we also changed the tranny fluid. i think the flywheel was around 100 bucks.

 

I could check the invoice again but pretty sure it was about $550 and that was master/slave cylinder clutch kit(disk, pressure plate and throw out bearing) as well as new synchromesh fluid in the trans.

As for replacing the slave...if your master is contaminated your slave most likely is as well and if it's sludgy you're not going to get it all out bleeding it. That's what the shop told me and it only makes sense. It's MUCH better now. The clutch never felt right from when I bough the truck but it worked and didn't grind or anything. I did have it happen where the clutch would engage and disengage about 2" off the floor. It would do it for a day or a couple days then it would go away and be normal. I finally got sick of it and took it in to get it fixed. The day I went to drop it off the clutch wouldnt' even disengage with the pedal all the way down. The cluch disk still had some life on it they said but I wanted it replaced anyways since it was apart.

 

my clutch quit working 2 days after i got my s10 and it was the slave cylinder..leaking so bad you could watch it pour out as soon as you put in the brake fluid

 

It takes 15min and $3 to bleed it, why not try that first? It worked for me cause when it got cold my clutch went soft....and I have a new slave!
I have personally replaced clutches in s-10s 9 times.....some mine and some other peoples.

 

When there's what looks like GREASE in the master...it's gonna be clogged in the master and slave and be nearly impossible to bleed grease out. That's why it was replaced.

 

i replaced mine cause it was leaking out every where, but i agree i would try bleeding first, thats what i did but then the resevoir would just end up empty after driving it for a day.

 

I finally bled my clucth on saturday...it works again

N/P. Just remember, when it gets cold and warms up, take 5 min. and bleed your clutch.
