Blower motor only works on low!

Okay, I have dealt with numerous friends/family whos blower motor only worked on high. Easily fixed by getting a new blower motor and resistor pack.

Well, mine started intermittently acting up only working on low then I did what any good computer guy does and smacked the shit outta the controls and it all started working again for a few days.

Then it stopped yesterday. So I smacked the shit outta the controls for a few minutes with a disturbed S.O. looking at me. Then I popped the hood and wiggled the resistor pack connector and viola, everything started working again.

So everytime I start the car the blower only works on low. I pop the hood and wiggle the resistor pack and it starts working again.

If i put it to a different speed, it gets stuck on low.

I was thinking the relay is bad, and shorted the hot to fan wire which made the blower work like a champ.

So I go to oreilly's in the trailertrash part of town and buy a new relay. Plug it in and nothing. I go to take it off because I'm returning that 22 dollar expensive bitch (for electronics, just say it wasn't for your application) and the guts break off and stick into the harness so I am holding the case only.

Anyhow, after I basically rip the relay in half, the blower goes to high.

I have S.O. select a lower speed and it goes to low, have her go to a higher speed and nothing happens.

So I am thinking it could still be the relay. I carefully put the relay pieces into the original box (heres hoping for a good return) and reinstall my old relay.

I smack the relay and high works. Then I play with the lower settings and it gets stuck back at low. I smack the relay a bit with it set to high and it works.

It seems like the thing that powers my relay is bad. I hope to the lordy lordy that it isn't my controls because on ebay they are like more than.... free.

Anyhow, thanks for reading this far.

The person who solves this riddle will recieve a special present in the mail*. (No it is not a candybar)

You probably have a vacuum leak. There is a spider of vacuum lines behind your ac controls if you are older like mine. Though your picture looks newer (2nd gen) and if it is like my full size then you have servos for moving air from defroster (safe mode) to feet/face. That should get you pointed into the right direction.

Have you pulled the resistor pack out to see if it has any broken resistors in it? I would try that. It seems to me to be the problem or its the fan switch itself. Put the fan on high then push on the switch itself to see if it will work. I had the same problem as you. Mine was the fan switch plug behind the hvac panel.

Hmm i always wandered what the hell that things for. Now that i have a different hood theres no where to mount it on the hood. so i just let it chill in the engine bay off to the side lol. maybe when the hoses take a shit ill run some longer ones to it and put it somewhere else.
