The iat thing is simple, it tricks the computer into thinking the outside air is colder thus the computer compensates with more timing and fuel.

with gas prices like they are, it's got nearly
EVERYBODY concerned with fuel economy...

i worry about fuel economy and im only 20 lol usual kids my age are racing around wasting a crap load of gas. i like to save as much money as possible. its worth it

i think the main problem with these aftermarket headers is that they dont worry about the sealing part. just how big the ports are so it gets the most flow. what i think they should do is make almost like a small flange that sits just inside the port, so it seals it better. but not so it restricts, almost like it recessed into the port. my dirt bike has something similar to this. its about a half inch thicker at the end, and its sits slightly inside the head. then its got a copper crush gasket that expands when you tighten it and it fills in the extra space around the edges.
it may sound confusing. could take a picture of it so there is a better understanding.
also warping issues with these headers, but thats a different discussion.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

thanx for the reply...what about increased fuel mileage? oh God it finally happened-I got old-I'm more worried about mileage than performance :(
Na, if anything it'll use more fuel. If it thinks outside air is colder it will use more fuel, cooler air is denser and the PCM compensates by adding fuel.

Definitely get rid of the stock y-pipe, that is where 80% of your restriction is. They neck the pipe down BAD right where the o2 sensors sit, I'm assuming to get a better read off the sensors.

Here's the edelbrock y-pipe compared to a stock 98 y-pipe

Here's the openings, the edelbrock is 2.25"

Can I get Y pipe like that for a 95 TBI vortec V6 with 4wd?

And then the oxygen sensors will tell the computer that it is adding too much fuel and it'll reduce fuel usage back to where is should be. Waste of money and a gimmick.

yea you should be able to. go on automotive sites and keep searching. youll find one.

jegs, autopartswarehouse, andysautosport. those are a couple sites. you can also go onto edelbrocks website

I searched edelbrock's and didn't see the part for the Y pipe. I still need helping buying one or two of these Y pipes.
See post #73..

You'll have to get custom or get a walker y pipe from AutoZone and hope it doesn't have the necked down area.

Edit: also edelbrock never sold individual pieces only complete tes systems. They never made anything for the 95.

I know this is a old thread that I am giving life too. But I have a 95 4.3w 4x4 auto. I was going to buy headers for her. But seeing the ones Summit has for $170 looks nice. But the EGR is what is getting me.

No match up and they are for 96 up. My 95 manufacture date is 06-94. Seems not much info or parts/aftermarket are for my/our trucks. I tell them 95 s10 ect and then after they find one and tell me about it. Somewhere they tell me its 96 up. What the Crap? We have to modify parts. I rebuild the transmission and took a lot of time getting all the info and filtering it out to best fit my trans. I have what I need and its done now. After reading this, I say thank you all for the information. I am going to save $200 and spend that on something else. I am going to buy the stock manifolds. THen do some cleaning and port/polish some. It all adds up. Like picking up pennies right? One is cracked and the other one seems the bolt holes do not match up well. It has a re-m4anufactured engine in it and I do not know the history on her. I tore her down to the block. Leaving the crank, pistons, cam, balancing shaft, and timing. Did a clean up and gasket kit. I did snap 2 bolts removing my left side manifold. #5 exhaust ports. One snap with a stud I could removed with Robo-Grips. The other one was not so lucky. Just below flush on the head. FML. My Mac Tools Easy outs are !@#$ing junk and waste of money. Used left handed drill bits up to 1/4 and still no go. Heated and pbed and still no go. My lowes easy outs still a no go. Feels it will snap as it gets grip. So, drilling it out and re-tap that one to 7/16. Great info on this thread.

That y pipe won't line up with those headers. If you get those 96+ headers for your 95, you need a flare cap for the EGR; also, look for headers without air injection (the other little tubes). Match the y pipe fitment by year to the headers.

PM me if interested in a set of used JBA headers.

I bought the headers that are for the 96 on up. I can not find any for my 95. Seems finding anything for that year, your lucky. What I did was cut off the egr pipes and weld them shut. They bolt up fine and clear well. I need a y pipe so I do not have to mod mine to work. i would have to weld a new pipe the goes the the left header. I can use the welder at work too. $50 for that one is a better option. I know, I never asked anyone on the forum in the add section. That is my fault. Do you know what y pipe would line up with them and why that would not? I do not know what is would cost to have one custom made. Ouch I am thinking. I am running into items I am going to have to junk yard find. Ahhh why GM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still love my S10.

Thanks,
